duPont heir and
billionaire, John duPont, during his murder trial. John duPont shot and killed
Olympic wrestler, David Schultz, killed on Foxcatcher Farm in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, January 26, 1996. duPont had pled insanity and
was determined by the court to suffer from mental illness. The defense argued that
he had paranoid schizophrenia. Prosecutors argued that his illness stopped short of
legal insanity. Jurors rejected the insanity defense, finding him "guilty but
mentally ill" in 1997. duPont was 58 when convicted of third degree murder.
He was sentenced to 40 years in a mental hospital.
